Is officially for sale! I will be sad to see it go, but f'ck that, it is time for a new project!

Just to give you an impression of what has been done: added a P200 engine with a lasercut subframe, the P200 engine has had a complete overhaul (all bearings/seals replaced, nos crankcase, nos piston/barrel, new engine mounts etcetera etcetera), frame has had an 'owatrol-treatment' to prevent it from rusting. Scooter has been build up with new cables, wiringloom, headbearings etc. The GS comes with all the original parts including the original engine. Frame has not been cut!

Translating this for the layman: this Vespa GS from 1960 is now very reliable and very quick! It has a pretty modern engine, this engine actually has been produced till about 2005! I can guarantee you: you can drive it round the world. This engine also has modern performance: you'll be faster than the car next to you at a traffic light... The conversion has been done in such a way you can always build it back to the original condition without complications.

After some little research I found out that the bicycle I bought should be a '36/'37 Shelby! Unfortunately it's pretty hard to find information about these bicycles and this brand, however, with the help of this forum I found out it should be a Shelby of the late thirties. With this information I found an article at www.nostalgic.net with a bike which should be mine, the frame, the sprocket, the fenders etcetera are exactly the same. Only my bicycles seems to miss some parts...

Last saterday I went to the Nürburgring, at the ring I spotted a numerous amount of exotic classic and modern cars. Here's a short grab of some cars I layed my eyes on.

An Alfa Romeo Giulia accompanied by several classic mercs, a stunning Renault 5 Turbo, an Alfa GT (my favourite) and a bunch of Lamborghini's... Unfortunately no pictures of the prewar-racers, and the loads of Audi R8's, Porsches (of which the newest Sport Classic x2, only 250 produced(!)), Ferrari's, kitcars etc...

Also known as Honda XRV 750 has been sold from 1988 to 2003 in slightly changed versions. The motorcycle was based on the NXR-750 which won the Paris Dakar rally four times in te late eighties.

Because it's very reliable and it has great on and offroad capacities the XRV is a very popular motorbike amongst adventure motorbikers.

I currently own an RD04 from 1992, and I am planning to ride it to Central Asia in a few years... Might become a classic one day...

Last year's season I drove an SRX600, it's a funny little thumper which I bought non running. With some new fuel it started at the first kick. I painted it white and drove through europe on it (along with two friends on a KLE500 and a SRAD750...). Because of the low weight it was great fun to ride in the Alpes.

About two years ago I "restored" a nice vespa GL-a 150. Bought it in pieces and powdercoated it because I was planning to use it as a daily driver. I drove it a few months but than sold it in order to buy my GS.

Anyways I was working recently at Maskes till I spotted a nice blue GL, my ex... It was in the row for reparations sow maybe I had done something wrong? Couldn't imagine it had let the "new" owner down. And I was right, turns out the new owner hasn't treated her very nice... He actually took the daily driving thing a bit too literally and drove it all winter through the snow and salt... All the chrome was corroded and he wasn't able to shift gears anymore because the gearlever was so heavily corroded... Well, at least that wasn't in my mind for a daily driver! At least the powdercoating had done its work very well, no rust at the body or whatsoever. Still a pain though, I put my love in it and someone is trying to ruin it... He didn't even wash or polish her...

Been quite busy last weeks but finally found some strength to write a new post! Yiehaa...

A few weeks ago a very nice Harley Davidson was for sale at the Dutch ebay: marktplaats.nl. Though I am not a great fan of the post WOII Harleys, I do like the WOII and pre WOII models. Especially a WOII model appeals to me because of all these extra features. Besides it's pretty special if you imagine it came to Europe pure for "practical" reasons, driven by American soldiers with a gun at the handlebars and an inscription where needed...

Take a close look at those details and inscriptions! I like it!

Vespa VNB

Did a nice find last week, found this cute VNB at a cardealer where my dad works. It was literally stuffed away in a small room with all kinds of shit on it. Pulled it out, took it home and it turned out to be a very nice find! The vespa has no significant rust and despite the crappy rust job it looks quite cool! It's also got some very nice details, headlight, taillight and speedometer are all in a pretty good condition. Even better, it will only need a cleaned up gastank to run again.

And it is running and driving just fine! Electrics was quite a challenge but I have managed to get it working with the original wireloom! This week will finish the last details, than I have got to get it tested by the "RDW" to get my license plate... Curious what they are going to say about this engine...

I will probably drive it to Antwerp at the 28th of March and will make different trips this year, so stay tuned!

Yesterday I worked some hours on my GS, finally received a bearing which I still needed for the engine. Now I could put the engine back together again. I am also modifying the flywheel-cover so it looks more original.

The wellknown clothing brand GANT made a stylish city bike. With a leather Brooks seat, eight layers of paint, white tyers and a nice retro look in general, I think they did a great job!

Last year me and a friend of mine bought us a KR1-s. It has 7000km on the speedo and looks stunning. The only problem is that it didn't run. The engine should have been revised but I have my doubts regarding the skills of the previous owner... The barrels are worn so we sent them to a barrel-revise-company. Unfortunately some mistakes by this stupid company were made, so it took quite a while before we were able to go further with the project. This week the barrels will arrive so we can finally build up the engine...

For people who don't know the KR1-s
The KR1-s replaced the earlier KR1, it was the direct competitor of the Suzuki RGV250. Because of the stunning specifications of this bike, 55BHP at 11.000rpm, 130kg's dry weight, a topspeed of 210km/h and good brakes. It was perfect for racing..! People say it was the nearest you could get to a race bike for the road. The only minor disadvantage was, because of its racy performances, maintenance and handling with care was very important. Bad maintenance and no good warming up meant braking down quite easily...

The KR1-s hasn't been sold a lot and if sold, it was most times raced at the circuit, because of these factors, few KR1-s are left, especially in Holland it's very hard to find a good one. Also good spareparts are hard to find...

Ow and I forgot to mention, in times of "global warming", two stroke road bikes will become very rare in the future...

At least, nowadays it is, but in the seventies, you would have been the man on a Honda! Honda had the first 750cc superbike, with four cylinders, super smooth, little vibrations and loads of power. Honda had the first mass produced motorcycle with a six cylinder engine. With a Honda you could pick up a girl without being afraid for a mechanical failure. Yes, Honda was it.

Project: a little research

A while ago I posted a picture of the front mudguard of my vespa. At the mudguard is an old dealer sticker. It says: Mantova-Legnago, first I thought it was the dealers' name but I did a little research, and it seems to be two places near each other in Verona, Italy. And what a coincidence, the old license plate is also from Verona! So my Vespa has probably been sold, or at least been driven in the province Verona.

I am thinking of driving with my Vespa to the place where it once has been driven, perhaps most time of its life. Maybe I will get to know something more about the history of my vespa. Meeting the man who raced it first. Driving in its old environment, looks like a great idea to me!

It's always good to park your classic in a dry and ventilated place. Most times the only problem is that you won't be able to look to your beloved vehicle as much as you'd like. Holger Schubert agrees, so he built a house in which he could place his Ferrari 512BBi in the living room. Cool idea. The car rolls into the living room by way of a ten-foot-long, fifteen-foot high bridge. The bridge has a hydraulic ramp at one end that lets him roll into the house only with gravity.

Unfortunately most neighbors have complained about this bridge so Schubert might have to remove it...

Wanted to share this with you, it's me at the age of 18, young and wild, racing on my CB350f from 1974. I bought the CB before I even had my driving license. I did a minor rebuild: changed the steering and backseat, put an overhauled and "big" bore 400cc engine in, other blinkers etc. It's a crappy video, but you'll get the idea.

So, you ride an old Vespa, Suzuki GT750, Moto Guzzi V7 and you are really feeling it. The only thing you are missing is a good retro equipment. Well, the first you do is buy a nice helmet. I suggest this one. It is a ruby helmet, designed in France, made of carbon fibre, with a real attention for detail. The helmets aren't cheap but I think they are worth the money. It will be the first step to complete your vintage driving equipment.

Last years summer vacation I drove in the north of France on my SRX 600. I was heading to the Alps with two friends of mine. Round 12 o'clock we decided to have a lunch break in a small typical french "ghost town". I was walking around a little, when I suddenly saw the rooftops of some older cars. I decided to take a look. There in this backyard, near a small desolated house, covered by two big trees were several Renault 5's rusting and rotting, waiting to go to heaven... Between them several Renault 5's Turbo and Alpines, there must have been at least 10 of these cars. I took some photographs and we went on. Afterwards, I regret, not even knowing what place in France it was...

Perhaps you recognize this movie, it's a movie of Claude Lelouch shot in 1976, showing a high speed drive through Paris. The car he drove with was a Mercedes 450 SEL but the sound was from his Ferrari 275GTB. By adding this sound he probably reached the effect of a fast(er) driving car. Though it's obvious the car drove fast, the exact speed is uncertain because of the sound effect. Calculations of a top speed difference between 140km/u and 240km/u. But no one is quite sure. Lelouch says he topped round 230-240km/h. Alongside the high speed, Lelouch did some other crazy things, ignoring red lights, driving the wrong way in one way streets, driving on the sidewalk etc.

Because of these things there was and still is a lot of commotion round this movie, and it is now said to be the most radical car movie of all time. I think it's a great movie, driving with a classic car through a magnificent city. Would like to drive the route my own sometime, same circumstances, same speed, other car, would be lovely...

The city Napels hides a big underground aqueduct system dating from the 18th century. An archeologist was doing some research in these tunnels when he did a miraculous discovery. He found numerous fifties and sixties vehicles, stored in a part of this system. It turns out to be numerous vehicles which have been seized by police in the sixties. Long way down on a Lambretta

Third of March 1954, two friends went out for a trip thru Africa on their Lambretta LD 125. They got back fifteen months later and it looks like they visited a lot of cities (judging their topcase). This must have been the real long way down, basic vehicle, no modern roads, no gps, no back up, no phone, no nothing. Ewan and Charley, how about a real long way down?

In order to fit a more modern P200 engine in a GS I bought myself a german-made bracket to get it in the frame. Despite having this bracket, it still took me quite a while to get the engine in right. I also had to adjust the rear shockabsorber.

Though I truly like a perfectly restored classic vehicle I might even like it more if not restored but kept in its original condition. Thus, you can almost read the history of ones vehicle. Details like a dealersticker, a driving-in inscription, an oil-mixture sticker, can really take you back in time.

My goal with this GS is to make it my dailydriver for quite a while. Because of this the scooter has got to be reliable. But then there is a problem, the original engine of a GS isn't reliable... And so, this might be seen as swearing, I will put a more modern engine in... I actually won't harm the frame and will build it in a way so I can always make it completely original again. So no problems if you ask me...

I started with preparing the frame, first I gave it an anti-rust treatment with owatrol, than putted the cables and wiring loom in, and I mounted the floor strips. I also placed a little sticker of Aral at the front.

How about a really nice sparewheel bracket?!
